INTRODUCTION:

During a day dream while working as a cleaning servant in the Pharaoh’s palace, you imagine cruising down the Nile in an Ancient Egyptian boat with your friends with a refreshing African breeze blowing through your hair and a traditional Egyptian drink in your hand, as you prepare to visit famous Egyptian cities like Cairo, Giza, Sazzara, Abydos, and Luxor. Inspired by this daydream, you go to the pharaoh’s daughter and say, “I have an idea. Why don’t we bring tourists to this wonderful country to partake of its mystery and beauty? In the process we can collect revenue for the sun god Re. She loves the idea so she appoints you and four others as Directors of Foreign Travel in order to assist her in this important task.

TASK:

Your task is to create a persuasive presentation that is clear, exciting, and engaging. Your presentation should also have a creative design that is colorful with lots of graphics and pictures, as well as a map of Egypt. Your group must come together and AGREE on one of the following presentation choices:

1.) a travel brochure

2.) a video

3.) a PowerPoint

4.) a poster

PROCESS:

1.) You will choose a topic to research and become the “group expert” on (Monday, Dec. 3)
2.) You will have 3 days to research your topic on the Internet websites that your teacher has chosen for you. You will have to make sure to focus on the QUESTIONS that go along with your topic. ( see topic/question sheet). However, do not hesitate to add any additional information that you find of interest. (Tuesday December 4- Thursday Decmeber 6)
3.) You will have additional time to research your topic in books. (Friday December 7)
4.)Next your group will come together for a CONFERENCE DAY where everyone will share all the fun facts they have discovered during their research. (Monday December 10)
5.) Finally, you may start working on your final group project.
6.) Last, but not least……all the groups will share their final presentation with the class.

3.) What were some important landmarks? (exp: cities, mountains, pyramids)
4.) What natural resources are found in Egypt?
5.) How did the Egyptians depend on the Nile River? (agriculture, transoportation)

Daily Life:

1.) What types of food did the Egyptians eat?
2.) What was their family life like? (roles of women, men, and children?)
3.) What types of jobs did they do?
4.) What types of clothes did they wear?
5.) Describe the social class system in ancient Egypt. (draw a social pyramid)

Religion/ Afterlife:

1.) How many gods/ goddessses were there?
2.) How did the Egyptians worship their gods/ goddesses?
3.) Pick 2 gods/ goddesses and describe them.
4.) Why was burying the dead so sacred to their religion? Why did they mummify their dead?
5.) What was the process of making a mummy?

Pyramids:

1.) What were the pyramids made of?
2.) What was the purpose of the pyramids?
3.) How did the ancient Egyptians buld the pyramids? (exp: tools, machines, workers)
4.) What types of things were inside the pyramids?
5.) Pick an iteresting topic (mysteries of the pyramids, the Great Pyramids of Giza)
